GRASS WIDOW
self titled: grass widow
this band is greatly worth mentioning when one is discussing the genre of lo-fi. i am definitely a sucker for all girl bands. but what is even better are girls who play music that is abrasively beautiful, tough and sweet and just real. grass widow is an exemplary band, a great representation of what defines great female music. and to top that off, a great asset to all that is lo-fi. what is hard to find in great lo-fi is music that is both lo-fi and comprehensibly good. some lo-fi bands just suck and so does their recording equipment. but then some bands are just great and their bad recording is just another sweet bonus. grass widow is clearly the latter. they know what they are doing.
self titled album, grass widow, is an amazingly upbeat, scratchy, and ruff listen. it is infectiously catchy and just seems to encompass the pains, the surprises, the perks, and the confusingly weird/great complexities of being a girl.
what is on replay?: celebrate the mundane, to where
dig this and want more? similar and other worthy listens: vivian girls, dreamdate, and mika miko
